Why Europe? Europe is “wealthy” and the
lives of the Europeans are “modern”. What
about those that speak English? If they
speak English then they have all the
resources that we have; therefore they
should already know of Christ life
changing gift, right? No. Europe is
least evangelized continent. Europe’s
population is 750 million and in most
countries less than 1% have a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ. And while
our Christian heritage and the Reformation
began there, Europe has strayed far form
it’s roots leaving most with only a hazy
view of Christianity and no knowledge of
God’s relevant and active love.
GEM’s mission is to assist the people of
Europe in building up the Body of Christ,
so that every person in Europe is within
reach of a witnessing fellowship.
As a missionary in Europe, my goal is to
come alongside local churches who are
following Christ and help them reach their
families, neighbors, and friends with the
news of Christ. As a part of Greater
Europe Mission Youth Ministry, I am
helping to train local youth workers in
Western Europe.
Ireland’s ancient Celtic Church and its
missionaries took the gospel to many
nations in Europe one and a half millennia
ago.
In more recent years, church involvement
has begun to decline rapidly. And while
Ireland has been identified as the
Catholic Country,
it is largely a cultural religion that
would be considered a "folk Catholicism"
as it has traditionally been mixed with
ancient Celtic beliefs. Ireland is one of
the only countries in Northern Europe
totally untouched by the Reformation.
