Evangelical
Alliance Ireland
Press Release
On Monday January 30,
2006 the Evangelical Alliance Ireland held a
press conference to
present the data that gathered through a
recent national survey of Evangelical
churches. Many of my fellow G.E.M. colleagues
were involved in this extensive survey
process.
Here is a
summary of what they found:
Diversity- A number of
denominations are represented, from Baptist to
Independent to Church of Ireland to Methodist
to Presbyterian, all who view themselves
Evangelical (Christians who are committed to
a belief in the power of Jesus Christ & His
message to transform people’s lives, to a need
to share that message with others, & to the
Bible as our final authority.)
Growth- In
1980 there were roughly 125 churches with less
then 10,000 Evangelicals in Ireland. In 2005,
over 30,000 were found. The population of
Ireland is .09% Evangelical. What is exciting
is that in the last 25 years 63% of all
Evangelical Churches have been started.
Size- The
Evangelical Church now has an average
attendance of 75 people
“Irish society is changing in an unprecedented
way” Sean Mullan (National Director, EAI)
said. “We are committed to communicating a
perspective on life that is based on the
teaching and life of Jesus Christ but is
viable and effective for everyday life and can
be applied to the complex issues facing Irish
society today” he concluded.
The Lord has done great
things thus far in Ireland. This report
should be an encouragement to those who began
the work; their labor has produced “fruit”.
For those of us starting out and or in the
thick of things may this report cause us to
dream big and see the extent in which God can
still move.
